Frugal Feats

Here are my frugal feats for the week. To see how others are stretching their dollars, pop in over at The Prudent Homemaker. She has a great group of followers that have many frugal tips.

Heaven made our fourth of July and my great niece's birthday decorations on her Cricut . I know a Circut is not frugal but, it will pay for itself over and over again.

I received a free sample of Gevalia coffee in the mail. I also picked up a free box of Mac-n-cheese from a coupon I had loaded onto my rewards card.

I ran out of flour tortillas and made some from scratch using this recipe. They were so delicious. I will never buy them again! I also ran out of creamer this last week. Instead of running to the store and buying some more, I opened a can of evaporated milk that I had purchased for a very low price during the after Christmas sales.

Purchased these much needed shoes at the thrift store (like new) for eight dollars!

The owner of the company I work for treated all of us ladies in the office to a night of theater and dinner. It was wonderful. Good food, good show, and good friends equals a good time!

For the last month I have been line drying my laundry and shutting off lights and electronics when not in use. I am hoping to see a bit of difference in my upcoming electric bill. What are some ways you save on your electric bill?

We stayed home Sunday to conserve gas. All meals were eaten from home this week. I went to the grocery store one time in two weeks. (I usually go every week.) I only went about five dollars over budget and that was because I bought some food to take to our family's Fourth of July party.

How did you save money this week?

  2. We stay at home as much as possible as well when trying to conserve gas. Some of the things I've done this week - I made my own hairspray using rosemary-infused filtered water, sugar and a little alcohol for preservative - it was my first time trying it & I'm pretty pleased at how it turned out. We've been eating heavily from the garden - good for our budget and for our health. We also ordered a restaurant card from our Discover points so when we are out of town for medical appointments we can stop for a bite without it hitting our budget. WIN! Thanks for sharing this post. 1. Your hairspray sounds awesome! I have a pot of Rosemary growing on my porch. I'm always on the look out for ways to use it up:)

  4. Canned milk in your coffee... I have an allergy to Cargeenan which is used in many creams (even organic ones). Since we started shopping nearly exclusively at Aldi, I haven't had half and half in my coffee. So for the last month or so I've used canned milk from my pantry. This past week we went to a store that has a Cargeenan free half and half. I was so happy to 'indulge' me once more. lol...I found it doesn't taste half so nice as the evaporated milk I'd been using! I can safely say that using canned milk is NOT cheaper than using half and half but it's more readily available to me and it's one more item I can strike off my 'things I do without because I shop at Aldi' list.

  5. I'm glad you were able to find a half and half that agrees with your allergies. If I could not add some type of milk/cream to my coffee I would not drink it.
