A Simpler Time

Times are tough. They have been for a long time. Husbands are still losing jobs. Mothers are having to work part-time. It is more expensive to eat, to drive, to just live. People are losing hope.

Is there a way out of such a mess?
Yes, and it is not to spend our way out as some would like us to believe. The way out is to take inspiration from the past, from a simpler time. In order to move forward we must go back.

Back to a time of homegrown homemade meals, gently used clothing, line dried linens, walks around the block, front porch chats with neighbors, children catching fireflies, fixing things ourselves, and providing for our families without debt.

Many websites, blogs, and books abound that can teach us these forgotten arts. Read them. Enjoy them. Take that knowledge and apply it to your own life. You and your family will be much happier for it.

Learning from the past will help us all to improve our lives. Give us hope through these tough times, and help us all succeed in our journey through life.

  3. You hit the problem right on the head! It seems that every young family I know have fast food for dinner at least 3-4 times a week because both mom and dad work full time. Kids see their day care provider more hours a week than they see their parents! This is a recipe for stress and trouble. I wish every mother would be able to stay at home with their babies until they are at least through elementary school. I know that makes me very, very old fashioned, and that it's just wishful thinking, but that is just me and my opinion! Lives were simpler just 50 years ago when I was a child and I must say I had a wonderful childhood with a working father and stay at home mother. I know many mothers need to work just to make ends meet, an unfortunate necessity. But I also know many more mothers work just so they can buy all the "extra things", which are not a necessity! Just sayin......

    1. I so wish at least one parent was home for the children. That may be dad or mom. It may even be that parents work different days or shifts. In my family my daughter, son-in-law, his mother and I all work different days and shifts. This way one of us is always home for my grandson:)
